By enhancing flame retardancy through the carbonization of MXene, the safety of use is guaranteed, expanding the working temperature range of MXene-based heaters.

Facile preparation of MXene-decorated wood with excellent electromagnetic interference shielding performance

Summary: The manner of assembling MXene on wood was adjusted using three different coating methods, and it was found that brush coating provided the most efficient conductive network with a small loading of MXene. The M/wood composite prepared by brush coating showed an EMI SE of 40.5 dB at 8.2 - 12.4 GHz with excellent anti-mold function due to the reducing activity and fluorine-containing groups of MXene.

By mixing biodegradable alginate fibers and flame retardant viscose fibers and coating them with highly conductive MXene nanosheets, the weft-knitted fabrics exhibit excellent flame retardancy, electrical performance, and electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency. The integrated fabrics also provide ideal heating performance under low voltage and sunlight/far-infrared heating. The superior properties are attributed to the high-temperature induced char layer, interconnected MXene network, and multiple scattering of light or wave.

This review focuses on different external field-responsive materials and provides a detailed summary of various action mechanisms, materials synthesis methods, and macrostructures. The future trends in developing novel external field-responsive materials are also discussed.
