The emerging roles of exosomes in anti-cancer drug resistance and tumor progression: An insight towards tumor-microenvironment interaction

Bikash Chandra Jena et al.

Summary: The tumor microenvironment (TME) is a complex network of cellular organization supporting tumor growth through intercellular communication, with a pivotal role in the development of anti-cancer drug resistance. Exosomes have emerged as key players in mediating bidirectional interplay between tumor and TME, promoting drug resistance and challenging therapeutic strategies.

The characterization of exosomes from fibrosarcoma cell and the useful usage of Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) for their evaluation

Tae Seong Lyu et al.

Summary: The study analyzed exosomes from a fibrosarcoma cell line WEHI-164 and a breast cancer cell line MDA-MD-231, revealing different protein components in exosomes from WEHI-164 and demonstrating DLS as a useful tool for assessing homogeneity and size of exosomes.

Potential roles and prognostic significance of exosomes in cancer drug resistance

Mostafa Mostafazadeh et al.

Summary: Exosomes play potential roles in tumor initiation, progression, and chemoresistance by mediating cell-to-cell communication and affecting drug resistance. Studies have shown that the content of exosomes released from tumor cells may be associated with the clinical outcomes of cancer patients.

Current Perspectives on the Role of Nrf2 in 5-Fluorouracil Resistance in Col-orectal Cancer

Jiayi Gong et al.

Summary: This study discussed the role and mechanisms of Nrf2 in 5-FU resistance and explored potential medicines or compounds that can reverse Nrf2-mediated resistance. Previous research indicated that overactivation of Nrf2 contributes to 5-FU resistance by regulating cytoprotective genes, and some medications and compounds have shown promise in overcoming Nrf2-mediated resistance.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Cancer-associated fibroblast-derived exosomal microRNA-24-3p enhances colon cancer cell resistance to MTX by down-regulating CDX2/HEPH axis

Hong-Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: In colon cancer, high expression of miR-24-3p and low expression of HEPH and CDX2 were observed in tissues and cells. CDX2, targeted by miR-24-3p, could up-regulate HEPH. Inhibition of CAF-derived exosomal miR-24-3p decreased cell viability and colony formation, and increased apoptosis, indicating a role in promoting chemotherapy resistance in colon cancer.

Exosomal miR-208b related with oxaliplatin resistance promotes Treg expansion in colorectal cancer

Tao Ning et al.

Summary: Our study demonstrates that miR-208b may serve as a non-invasive marker for predicting the sensitivity of CRC patients to FOLFOX chemotherapy. Colon cancer cell-secreted miR-208b promotes Treg expansion by targeting PDCD4, leading to tumor growth and oxaliplatin resistance.

A KLF4/PiHL/EZH2/HMGA2 regulatory axis and its function in promoting oxaliplatin-resistance of colorectal cancer

Xuan Deng et al.

Summary: The study identified PiHL as a promoter of chemoresistance in CRC, with its role in activating the EZH2/HMGA2/PI3K/Akt signaling axis to confer oxaliplatin resistance. Targeting PiHL restored sensitivity to oxaliplatin in resistant CRC cells, indicating a potential novel strategy for overcoming drug resistance.

Thymoquinone inhibited vasculogenic capacity and promoted mesenchymal-epithelial transition of human breast cancer stem cells

Sanya Haiaty et al.

Summary: The study showed that TQ could inhibit the proliferation and vasculogenic capacity of human breast CSCs, reduce the metastasis of tumor cells, and suppress MendT phenomenon. TQ also had the potential to decrease the number of CD24(-) CSCs and Rhodamine 123 efflux capacity, indicating its anti-tumor effects.
