Soil nutrient loss by gully erosion on sloping alpine steppe in the northern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau

Lei Sun et al.

Summary: The study found that gully erosion generally leads to serious soil nutrient loss and varies between shallow gully and deep gully. However, both shallow gully and deep gully showed an increase in available phosphorus variation, while deep gully also demonstrated an increase in pH variation. Soil sand content and soil nutrient properties were more sensitive to gully erosion in different cross sections, indicating that the depth of erosion gullies largely determines soil nutrient loss.

Aboveground community composition and soil moisture play determining roles in restoring ecosystem multifunctionality of alpine steppe on Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau

Yudan Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that grassland cultivation and fencing can significantly promote the ecosystem multifunctionality of degraded alpine steppes. Aboveground plant community composition has a greater impact on EMF of alpine steppes, and combining abiotic factors with biotic factors can better explain EMF.

Effects of elevation and slope aspect on the distribution of the soil organic carbon associated with Al and Fe mineral phases in alpine shrub-meadow soil

Mingxuan Che et al.

Summary: This study found that the soil organic carbon associated with aluminum and iron minerals in alpine shrub-meadow soil accounted for a small proportion of SOC. Topography strongly influenced soil biotic and abiotic parameters, as well as organo-mineral associations in the soil.

Assessment of the geo-eco-hydrological condition of anabranching reaches in the Source Zone of the Yellow River, western China

Meiqin Han et al.

Summary: A geo-eco-hydrological approach was used to assess river condition in three anabranching reaches in the Source Zone of the Yellow River. While contemporary conditions closely resemble expected reference conditions, they are still subject to land use pressures which impact vegetation interactions. The best prospect for maintaining good river condition is to minimize anthropogenic disturbance and promote self-sustaining processes through passive management practices.
