Opportunities and challenges in the development of advanced materials for emission control catalysts

Abhaya K. Datye et al.

Summary: This review discusses the use, synthesis routes, and materials of exhaust emissions catalysts, as well as the challenges faced in the field. New material concepts include single-atom catalysts, two-dimensional materials, three-dimensional structures, but they need to overcome various challenges before being applied to exhaust treatment in cars and trucks.

Roles of the basic metals La, Ba, and Sr as additives in Al2O3-supported Pd-based three-way catalysts

Yuan Jing et al.

Summary: This study investigates the roles of basic metal additives La, Ba, and Sr in Pd-based TWC systems, finding that the electron-rich characteristics of different additives can impact the catalytic performance. The data suggest that the optimal metal additive for a Pd-based TWC will depend on the specific application and should consider both stability and promotional effects during exhaust purification.

Transformation of Bulk Pd to Pd Cations in Small-Pore CHA Zeolites Facilitated by NO

Shunsaku Yasumura et al.

Summary: This study describes the atomic dispersion of Pd metal into small pores of CHA zeolites, achieving the introduction of Pd2+ cations into the zeolites. The research utilized various characterization techniques to investigate the structural evolution of Pd metal and successfully achieved the highest loading amount of atomic Pd2+ cations into CHA zeolites reported thus far.

Comprehensive study of the light-off performance and surface properties of engine-aged Pd-based three-way catalysts

Masaaki Haneda et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the light-off performance of engine-aged model three-way catalysts and found a satisfactory correlation between the light-off temperatures under simulated- and real-exhaust gas conditions. It was observed that the quality of the Pd-support oxide interface and the surface state of Pd particles were strongly affected by high-temperature engine ageing. Additionally, Pd particles with a high fraction of corner sites were found to be highly active for three-way catalytic reactions.
