A Review on Electric and Fuel Cell Vehicle Anatomy, Technology Evolution and Policy Drivers towards EVs and FCEVs Market Propagation

Mathan Chandran et al.

Summary: The transportation sector, being the largest consumer of fossil fuels, is a major producer of greenhouse gases. With declining fossil fuel reserves and stricter emission regulations globally, shifting to alternative energy sources is essential to combat rising global temperatures. Hybrid, electric, and fuel cell vehicles are seen as the best alternative solution, though challenges like range and charging time still need to be addressed with technological advancements and innovations.

Pt-modified nanometric Rh overlayer as an efficient three-way catalyst under lean conditions

Hiroshi Yoshida et al.

Summary: The nanometric Rh overlayer on a Fe-Cr-Al metal foil can simultaneously remove NO, CO, and C3H6 in a simulated three-way catalyst reaction, but the conversion of C3H6 decreases under lean conditions. The addition of a small amount of Pt can enhance the oxidation activity of the Rh overlayer for C3H6 under lean conditions.

Challenges in applying highly active Pt-based nanostructured catalysts for oxygen reduction reactions to fuel cell vehicles

Kensaku Kodama et al.

Summary: Progress has been made in the development of Pt-based nanocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction over the past 30 years, with some now in commercial production for PEFCs. However, further improvements in catalytic activity are needed. State-of-the-art catalysts have potential to enhance energy conversion efficiencies and reduce platinum usage in PEFCs, but technical challenges remain for their application in fuel cell vehicles, such as high power density, practical durability, and efficiency.
