Highly selective hydrogenation of phenol to cyclohexanone over a Pd-loaded N-doped carbon catalyst derived from chitosan

Qiong Wu et al.

Summary: A highly stable Pd-loaded N-doped carbon catalyst (ACN(pd)) prepared from chitosan by hydrothermal carbonization exhibited excellent catalytic performance in phenol hydrogenation, achieving high conversion and selectivity. This outstanding performance was attributed to the synergetic effects of Pd particles, N-functional groups, and Lewis acid sites on the support.

High-Performance Pd/AC Catalyst for Meropenem Synthesis Based on Selective Surface Modification of Activated Carbon

Yuefeng Li et al.

Summary: The textural structure and surface properties of activated carbon were selectively modified through different treatments, with urea-treated AC containing more carbonylic groups and nitrogenous species. The Pd/AC-U catalyst showed higher meropenem yield and lower impurity content in the product due to the efficient anchoring sites for Pd nanoparticles provided by the nitrogenous groups and decreased side reactions.

Sachin B. Karpe et al.

Summary: A proto-type NOx sensor was developed using optimized Pd nanoparticles loaded WO3(Pd@WO3). The Pd@WO3 material showed enhanced response towards NOx gas at room temperature, with negligible cross sensitivity to other gases and organic vapors. The response and recovery time for the sensor device were observed to be 1 second and 2 seconds respectively.

Well-Defined MOF-Derived Hierarchically Porous N-Doped Carbon Materials for the Selective Hydrogenation of Phenol to Cyclohexanone

Yanhua Shao et al.

Summary: Metal organic framework (MOF) derivatives, porous N-doped carbons (CN), were used as catalyst carriers for the selective hydrogenation of phenol to produce cyclohexanone. The synthesis process involved pyrolysis in a H-2/Ar atmosphere followed by acid etching, resulting in improved catalytic properties of the Pd@CN catalysts due to enhanced porosity and Pd loading. The as-fabricated Pd@CN-H catalyst displayed good reusability in recycling tests, demonstrating the potential utilization of MOF-derived hybrid carbon materials in catalysis.

Sida Rong et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of biological activated carbon catalysts (ACCs) with different specific surface areas and pore structures were prepared by controlling the changes in carbonization and activation methods during the preparation of activated carbon. Hierarchical porous ACCs with larger specific surface area have higher hydrogen iodide decomposition efficiency, with samples H240H1h and H240C4h showing the highest catalytic activity in the series.

Defining the Qualities of High-Quality Palladium on Carbon Catalysts for Hydrogenolysis

Conor J. Crawford et al.

Summary: It has been demonstrated in this study that there is wide variability in the efficiency of commercial sources of palladium on carbon (Pd/C), leading to significant differences in selectivity, reaction times, and yields. The physicochemical properties of efficient catalysts for hydrogenolysis were identified as small particle size of Pd/PdO, homogeneous distribution of Pd/PdO on the carbon support, and the oxidation state of palladium, which are good predictors of catalytic efficiency. Chemists can now identify and predict a catalyst's efficiency prior to the use of valuable synthetic material and time.

Preparation of Efficient Pd/MgAl-LDO@Al2O3 Catalyst for Phenol Hydrogenation to Cyclohexanone

Min Zhao et al.

Summary: The in situ synthesis strategy of growing layered double hydrotalcites on alumina improves the specific surface area and acid-base sites, resulting in the enhanced catalytic performance of Pd/MgAl-LDO@Al2O3 catalyst in the selective hydrogenation of phenol to cyclohexanone. Introducing Ni into the layered structure forms a PdNi alloy structure with lower energy barrier for the phenol hydrogenation reaction, but leads to a decrease in cyclohexanone selectivity. Adsorption of phenol on the Pd/MgAl-LDO@Al2O3 catalyst in a non-coplanar manner is proposed as a mechanism for selective hydrogenation. The catalyst shows excellent stability after repeated use.
