A waste biomass-derived photothermic material with high salt-resistance for efficient solar evaporation

Summary: A low-cost, high-efficient solar evaporator derived from waste biomass was constructed with a Janus structure in this study, showing effective solar energy driven water evaporation for seawater desalination. The multifunctional photothermal sponge has a hydrophobic top layer and a hydrophilic bottom layer to prevent salt accumulation, ensuring high efficiency and stable water vapor output. The evaporator also exhibited excellent antibacterial property and potential for use in large-scale wastewater treatment and clean water generation.

Magnetic chitosan-based aerogel decorated with polydimethylsiloxane: A high-performance scavenger for oil in water

Summary: In this work, a magnetic chitosan-based aerogel decorated with polydimethylsiloxane was successfully fabricated as a porous substrate for oil/water separation. The aerogel exhibited high absorption capacities and excellent hydrophobic properties, enabling selective oil absorption from immiscible mixtures. Additionally, the aerogel could be controlled remotely by an external magnetic field and effectively separate heavy oil from water as a filter, showing great potential in oily wastewater remediation.
