Photolysis of Fluorinated Graphites with Embedded Acetonitrile Using a White-Beam Synchrotron Radiation

Galina I. Semushkina et al.

Summary: In this study, the photolysis of fluorinated graphites with interlayer embedded acetonitrile was investigated, and it was found that the photolysis products depend on the photon irradiation duration and composition of the initial CFx matrix. The obtained results are important for evaluating the radiation damage of fluorinated graphites and synthesizing nitrogen-doped graphene materials.

Room-temperature phosphorescent fluorine-nitrogen co-doped carbon dots: Information encryption and anti-counterfeiting

Feng Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that fluorine-nitrogen co-doped carbon dots exhibit high RTP lifetime and quantum yield, mainly originating from specific electron transitions. Additionally, hydrogen bonding between carbon dots and polyvinyl alcohol matrix, as well as semi-ionic C-F bonds, can enhance the efficiency of RTP.

Advanced XPS characterization: XPS-based multi-technique analyses for comprehensive understanding of functional materials

Mark A. Isaacs et al.

Summary: X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) has become a mature analytical technique in the materials community, but its misuse is often highlighted by recent reviews. Advanced XPS techniques or a combination with complementary surficial probes can provide additional information beyond the standard appreciation. This review aims to introduce some atypical applications of lab-based XPS and combinatorial approaches of related surface analysis to the general materials audience.

Redox reactions between acetonitrile and nitrogen dioxide in the interlayer space of fluorinated graphite matrices

D. V. Pinakov et al.

Summary: This study reports redox reactions occurring between acetonitrile and nitrogen oxide guests in galleries of fluorinated graphite, demonstrating the dissociation of N2O4 in fluorinated graphite matrices to form various nitrogen-containing species. The interaction of NO3 with acetonitrile yields HNO3 as a predominant guest in the synthesis products, leading to the removal of fluorine atoms weakly bonded to the graphite layers and partial defluorination of the matrices. The findings suggest the potential use of fluorinated graphite as a controllable test nanoreactor for various chemical reactions.
