An experimental comparison on regional thermal environment of the high-density enclosed building groups with retro-reflective and high-reflective coatings

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that retro-reflective coatings have better cooling potential and can improve the regional thermal environment of high-density enclosed building groups compared to highly-reflective coatings. The application of retro-reflective coatings can reduce wall temperatures and increase regional albedo, but the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor air should still be considered.

The effects of vertical farming on indoor carbon dioxide concentration and fresh air energy consumption in office buildings

Yiming Shao et al.

Summary: Common indoor air pollutants include CO2, PM, and VOC, with limited methods available for reducing indoor CO2 concentration. The introduction of vertical farming has been shown to be effective in absorbing CO2 and reducing CO2 levels in office buildings. This method can also lead to a significant reduction in building ventilating energy consumption.

Calculation method of mean skin temperature weighted by temperature sensitivity of various parts of human body

Guodan Liu et al.

Summary: This article introduces two methods for calculating skin temperature: the area weighting method and a method using cold and heat sensitivity coefficients. The study found no significant difference between the two sensitivity coefficient methods, but there were differences compared to the traditional method. Ambient temperature had a significant impact on the results, while clothing thermal resistance and activity level had minimal effects.

Application of retro-reflective materials in urban buildings: A comprehensive review

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: With the rapid urban development, high-rise and high-density buildings are increasing, causing urban thermal environment problems such as urban heat island. Traditional highly-reflective materials can reduce solar radiation gain but may lead to increased urban heat gain due to multiple absorption of thermal radiation. In order to overcome this inherent defect, retro-reflective materials have been proposed to reflect solar radiation along the incident radiation path.

An experimental investigation of green wall bio-filter towards air temperature and humidity variation

Peter Abdo et al.

Summary: Green walls have the potential to provide thermal comfort through passive and active systems. Active modules show a temperature decrease of 1-3 degrees Celsius when saturated wet, while passive modules provide a cooling effect of 0.5-2 degrees Celsius. The plant species studied did not show any preference, indicating that substrate moisture content plays the major role in affecting temperature and humidity variations.
