Medium dynamic diffusion characteristics in the pipeline network of variable flow HVAC system towards online decoupling control oriented

Jiaming Wang et al.

Summary: The coupling characteristics of control loops in HVAC systems' optimization process greatly impact control effectiveness and system stability, especially during the diffusion process of quality and quantity parameters. This study investigates the real-time diffusion characteristics of medium parameters in a pipeline network from the perspective of online decoupling control. An online application mechanism is proposed to enhance the online feasibility of dynamic characteristics in practical systems and leads to new directions for online optimization of HVAC systems. Simulation analysis identifies the qualitative and quantitative relations between delayed response time and constitutive parameters in the pipeline network, which is essential in selecting control period and optimization timing during decoupling control in practice. The simulation results and online feasibility are experimentally verified in an actual HVAC system, showing high accuracy and applicability. This research provides valuable reference for time-oriented optimization of online decoupling control in practice and serves as a theoretical foundation for future studies.

Hierarchical decompositions for MPC of resource constrained control systems: applications to building energy management

Eduardo Camponogara et al.

Summary: Energy management plays a crucial role in energy savings and temperature control in buildings. Model predictive control (MPC) has become a popular technique due to its ability to handle complex dynamics and system constraints. This work proposes hierarchical decompositions to divide computations between a centralized master problem and distributed subproblems, offering organizational flexibility and distributed computation. Various methods such as bilevel optimization, Benders, and Lagrangean decomposition are considered for hierarchical control and optimization. Numerical analysis and simulated application results are reported for the proposed hierarchical approach in the energy management of a building.

State estimation models of district heating networks for integrated energy system considering incomplete measurements

Suhan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this paper, state estimation models for the district heating network based on incomplete measurement configurations are proposed. Two typical regulation modes are considered and corresponding algorithms are developed. Results show strong applicability and accuracy of the proposed models, making them more practical for engineering applications compared to full measurement models.

Feasibility study of retrofitting VAV system to VAV-DOAS system for outdoor airflow requirement and distribution in multi-zone VAV system

Tianyi Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the retrofit of the ventilation system while reserving the original VAV system, discussing a combination of VAV system and dedicated outdoor air system (VAV-DOAS). Experimental results show that the presented VAV-DOAS can save energy consumption in winter and summer conditions in Dalian. Additionally, an economic evaluation method is proposed to assess the economy of retrofitting a VAV-DOAS system from the VAV system.

A New Model Predictive Control Method for Eliminating Hydraulic Oscillation and Dynamic Hydraulic Imbalance in a Complex Chilled Water System

Yang Yuan et al.

Summary: In order to enhance the energy performance of a central air-conditioning system, a new Model Predictive Control (MPC) method for chilled water system is proposed in this study. The method can eliminate hydraulic oscillations and imbalance among different floors, which can save 23.3% electricity consumption of the pumps.
