Thicker Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer with Age among Schoolchildren: The Hong Kong Children Eye Study

Xiu-Juan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of age on peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (p-RNFL) thickness in schoolchildren. The findings show that p-RNFL thickness increases significantly with age among children aged 6-8 years, which differs from the trend observed in adults. These results provide a reference for interpreting optical coherence tomography (OCT) information in children and suggest that stable p-RNFL thickness may not indicate a stable disease status in pediatric patients due to age effects.
