Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors Used Concomitantly with Insulin Secretagogues and the Risk of Serious Hypoglycemia

Young Hee Nam et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between serious hypoglycemia and concomitant use of ACE inhibitors in patients receiving insulin secretagogues. The results suggest that overall, the use of ACEIs with insulin secretagogues does not increase the rates of serious hypoglycemia, with the possible exception of glimepiride.

Population-Based Signals of Antidepressant Drug Interactions Associated With Unintentional Traumatic Injury

Charles E. Leonard et al.

Summary: This study identified numerous new population-based signals of antidepressant drug interactions associated with unintentional traumatic injury. These signals should be further confirmed or refuted in future studies to test hypotheses.

Utilization Patterns of Skeletal Muscle Relaxants Among Commercially Insured Adults in the United States from 2006 to 2018

Yan Li et al.

Summary: The study examined the prevalence and duration of skeletal muscle relaxant (SMR) treatment among commercially insured adults in the United States. SMR use in the U.S. slightly increased in recent years, but trends varied among individual agents, patient groups, and geographic regions. A significant number of U.S. adults used SMRs for long-term and off-label conditions, highlighting the need for further research on determinants of treatment and associated outcomes.

Evaluation of serious bleeding signals during concomitant use of clopidogrel and hypnotic drugs

Thanh Phuong Pham Nguyen et al.

Summary: The study aimed to confirm or refute previous DDI signals, indicating a potential association between clopidogrel and eszopiclone or zolpidem with serious bleeding. However, due to statistical imprecision, a clear conclusion could not be drawn. Further examination is needed for the associations of other hypnotics with serious bleeding.

Efficacy, acceptability, and safety of muscle relaxants for adults with non-specific low back pain: systematic review and meta-analysis

Aidan G. Cashin et al.

Summary: The study found considerable uncertainty regarding the clinical efficacy and safety of muscle relaxants for low back pain. More large, high quality, placebo controlled trials are urgently needed to provide clearer answers to these uncertainties.
