Adherence to the Mediterranean diet and weight status in children: the role of parental feeding practices

Vassiliki Costarelli et al.

Summary: The study found that in children aged 2-6 years, emotion regulation/food as reward and pressure decrease adherence to the Mediterranean Diet, while monitoring decreases the risk of excess body weight. In children aged 6-12 years, healthy eating guidance and monitoring increase adherence to the Mediterranean Diet, child control decreases adherence, pressure decreases the risk of excess body weight, and restriction increases the risk of excess body weight. Healthy eating guidance and monitoring appear to be the most effective parental feeding practices in terms of children's adherence to the Mediterranean Diet and weight status.
