Testosterone supplementation and bone parameters: a systematic review and meta-analysis study

G. Corona et al.

Summary: Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) can inhibit bone resorption and increase bone mass, especially at the lumbar spine level. The effects are more prominent with longer duration of treatment and higher prevalence of diabetes in patients.

Acute Spinal Cord Injury Is Associated With Prevalent Cardiometabolic Risk Factors

Ryan Solinsky et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the prevalence of cardiometabolic disease (CMD) at spinal cord injury (SCI) rehabilitation discharge, compare it with a control group without SCI, and identify factors associated with increased CMD risk. The study found that individuals with SCI had a higher risk of CMD compared to the general population, with obesity, insulin resistance, and low HDL-C being the most common risk determinants. Age was significantly associated with early CMD.

Summary: Physical performance measures are widely used in geriatric practice and aging research, but they can increase the risk of infection, especially from SARS-CoV-2. This article provides guidance on minimizing the risk of infection in exercise laboratories, including measures such as personal hygiene, reconfiguration of space, and optimization of ventilation.

The neurological level of spinal cord injury and cardiovascular risk factors: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Peter Francis Raguindin et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the differences in cardiovascular risk factors according to the neurological level of spinal cord injury (SCI). The findings suggested that SCI individuals with tetraplegia or high thoracic SCI had lower blood pressure and lipid levels compared to those with paraplegia or low thoracic SCI. This indicates that the level of injury in SCI individuals may be an additional non-modifiable cardiovascular risk factor. Further well-designed longitudinal studies are needed to confirm these findings and explore the role of SCI level in cardiovascular health and overall prognosis and survival.
