Distribution and factors associated with urogenital schistosomiasis in the Tiko Health District, a semi-urban setting, South West Region, Cameroon

Adeline Enjema Green et al.

Summary: The epidemiological survey conducted in the Tiko Health District (THD) in Cameroon revealed a high prevalence of urogenital schistosomiasis, especially in communities with proximity to streams, frequent water contact, younger age groups, and intense water contact activities. Mass chemotherapy with praziquantel is recommended to reduce morbidity in areas with prevalence exceeding 50.0%. Providing portable water and health education are proposed measures to reduce and eventually eliminate transmission in the area.
