SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex is required for initiation of sex-dependent differentiation in mouse germline

Toshiaki Ito et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the transition from primordial germ cells to sex-specific germ cells is disrupted in conditional knockout mice lacking the Smarcb1 (also known as Snf5) gene, a core subunit of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex. Female mutant mice show impaired meiotic entry and progression due to failure to upregulate meiosis-related genes, while male mutant mice exhibit delayed mitotic arrest and DNA hypomethylation. These results demonstrate the essential role of SWI/SNF complex in transcriptional reprogramming during the initiation of sex-dependent germ cell differentiation.

Runx1 shapes the chromatin landscape via a cascade of direct and indirect targets

Matthew R. Hass et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that Runx1 plays a unique role in maintaining open chromatin at many loci, while Zeb proteins are necessary and sufficient for the maintenance of Runx1-dependent genome-scale repression. This cascade of effects initiated by the loss of a single transcription factor may have negative consequences on development and health.

Host-Parasite Interaction of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and the Ectoparasite Neoparamoeba perurans in Amoebic Gill Disease

Natasha A. Botwright et al.

Summary: Through studying the pathogenesis of amoebic gill disease in Atlantic salmon, the localized and systemic immune responses of the host and parasite were identified, along with transcription factors and gene networks significantly altered in disease states. This dual transcriptomic study provides novel molecular insights into the pathology of AGD, offering alternative theories for future research and improved management strategies.
