Exclusive enteral nutrition in children and adolescents with Crohn disease: Dietitian perspectives and practice

Deirdre Burgess et al.

Summary: The study found that pediatric dietitians in Australia and New Zealand are mostly aligned in their practice of exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN), with clear consensus on the duration of EEN, the need for close dietitian supervision, and the method of food reintroduction. However, there was lack of consensus among dietitians regarding permitted concomitant foods while on EEN. The development of a standard EEN protocol and patient IBD resources will further align practice and allow for greater research possibilities.

Role of dietary fiber in the recovery of the human gut microbiome and its metabolome

Ceylan Tanes et al.

Summary: The study found that omnivore and vegan diets altered fecal amino acid levels, while a synthetic enteral nutrition lacking fiber did not have this effect. The impact on the plasma metabolome was modest, but the diets influenced broad classes of metabolites that may modify health by affecting the human microbiome.

Metabolomic Signatures in Pediatric Crohn's Disease Patients with Mild or Quiescent Disease Treated with Partial Enteral Nutrition: A Feasibility Study

Jair Gonzalez Marques et al.

Summary: Metabolomics analysis revealed significant differences in the metabolome of pediatric Crohn's disease patients undergoing partial enteral nutrition therapy over one year, with inflammatory markers associated with specific compounds and chemical classes. Further longitudinal studies are needed to evaluate the potential of these metabolic biomarkers in predicting disease activity.
