The SUMO-specific protease SENP1 deSUMOylates p53 and regulates its activity

Krishna M. Chauhan et al.

Summary: The study reveals that SENP1 is a critical p53 deSUMOylating enzyme, and its depletion induces p53 transactivation activity and synergizes with DNA damage-inducing agent etoposide to activate p53 and inhibit cancer cell growth.

SH3PXD2A-AS1/miR-330-5p/UBA2 ceRNAnetwork mediates the progression of colorectal cancer through regulating the activity of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway

Shuang Guo et al.

Summary: Long non-coding RNAs play important roles in various cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC). This study identified SH3PXD2A-AS1 as a potential lncRNA associated with CRC progression and demonstrated its effects on CRC cell proliferation, invasion, and apoptosis. SH3PXD2A-AS1 was found to function as a ceRNA for miR-330-5p, regulating the expression of UBA2 and affecting the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway to modulate CRC progression. These findings provide insights into the pathogenesis of CRC and potential biomarkers for CRC treatment.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

SUMOylation Regulator-Related Molecules Can Be Used as Prognostic Biomarkers for Glioblastoma

Xiaozhi Li et al.

Summary: This study examined the expression of 15 SUMOylation regulators in glioblastoma and developed a risk assessment model based on these genes, which demonstrated a strong predictive ability for overall survival in patients. The findings may offer potential targets for investigating the relationship between SUMOylation and glioblastoma.
