A new model to analyze the temperature effect on the microalgae performance at large scale raceway reactors

Enrique Rodriguez-Miranda et al.

Summary: The study developed a simplified temperature model for raceway reactors to determine the temperature of microalgae culture based on reactor design and environmental conditions. Results show that only strains tolerant to wide temperature ranges can be efficiently produced all year round in large-scale outdoor reactors.

Indirect regulation of temperature in raceway reactors by optimal management of culture depth

E. Rodriguez-Miranda et al.

Summary: Temperature and irradiance are crucial factors affecting microalgae cultures in open raceway reactors, with inadequate temperature significantly decreasing biomass productivity. An indirect method for temperature regulation by optimizing culture depth can improve performance in these reactors without extra energy and costs.

OPTIMIZATION OF A NEW CULTURE MEDIUM FOR THE LARGE-SCALE PRODUCTION OF PROTEIN-RICH ARTHROSPIRA PLATENSIS (OSCILLATORIALES, CYANOPHYCEAE)

Cintia Gomez et al.

Summary: The study developed a novel medium FM-II for enhancing protein production of Arthrospira, with Arthrospira platensis showing higher biomass and protein productivities than Arthrospira maxima in both control and FM-II media. Incorporation of varied micronutrients into the FM-II formulation did not improve biomass productivity.

Year-long evaluation of microalgae production in wastewater using pilot-scale raceway photobioreactors: Assessment of biomass productivity and nutrient recovery capacity

Ainoa Morillas-Espana et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the potential of using pilot-scale raceway photobioreactors to produce Scenedesmus sp. from wastewater with high levels of nutrients. Validation of the ABACO model showed robust and accurate prediction of biomass productivity throughout the year under different seasonal and temperature conditions in outdoor open raceways.

Climate-Simulated culturing suggests high microalgal biomass and oil productivities in most of the South American continent

Camila D. Coronel et al.

Summary: This study provides a semi-empirical estimation of microalgal productivity in South America through simulation of cultivation conditions in different geographical locations. Results suggest that most productive regions for microalgal biomass and lipids are in the subtropical and tropical regions of the continent, with Fortaleza in Brazil showing productivity close to the target in 5-cm deep ponds.
