High dye removal capacity ofPeniophora laxitextaimmobilized in a combined support based on polyurethane foam and lignocellulosic substrates

Leonardo Majul et al.

Summary: Dye removal from effluents is a major problem for textile industries. Current physico-chemical methods are expensive and inefficient, therefore a low-cost and efficient method is needed. This study developed a combined system based on immobilized fungus that was able to effectively remove different types of dyes. The results showed that the immobilized fungus had good decolorization performance in multiple cycles, achieved through a combination of adsorption and enzymatic decolorization. Additionally, a new laccase isoform with high decolorization capacity was discovered. This study suggests that the immobilized laminar biocarrier could be effectively used for dye removal in textile wastewater.

Simultaneous removal of nitrate and diethyl phthalate using a novel sponge-based biocarrier combined modified walnut shell biochar with Fe3O4 in the immobilized bioreactor

Liang Xu et al.

Summary: A novel biological carrier combining sponge and modified walnut shell biochar with Fe3O4 (MWSB@Fe3O4) was fabricated for simultaneous removal of nitrate and diethyl phthalate (DEP), achieving high removal efficiency under optimal conditions. High-throughput sequencing data revealed that Zoogloea sp. L2, responsible for iron-reduction and denitrification, was the main strain in this immobilized bioreactor. The novel biological carrier showed potential for efficient removal of pollutants in wastewater treatment systems.
