A novel SAD process: Match of anammox and denitrification

Dongdong Xu et al.

Summary: A novel Sequential Anammox and Denitrification (SAD) system was developed in this study, using solid carbon source (SCS) to achieve efficient total nitrogen (TN) removal. The long-term operation results demonstrated the effectiveness of the SAD system in TN removal, and microbial community analysis was conducted.

High adhesion ability of anammox granular microbes directly revealed by QCM-D technique

Weigang Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that EPS extraction stimulated the adherence properties of all sludge samples. Anammox consortia exhibited the highest adhesion rate and mass, forming the most compact layer on sensor surfaces both before and after EPS extraction. The high adhesion ability of anammox granules is mainly attributed to their relatively high extracellular proteins/polysaccharides ratio.

Culturing sludge fermentation liquid-driven partial denitrification in two-stage Anammox process to realize advanced nitrogen removal from mature landfill leachate

Hao Jiang et al.

Summary: Combining SFL-driven PD with two-stage Anammox process improved nitrogen removal efficiency and rate, with a high nitrate to nitrite transformation ratio achieved. Key genera related to degradation of SBO, PD, and Anammox were enriched, showing a novel insight for advanced nitrogen removal.

Synergistic fouling behaviors and mechanisms of calcium ions and polyaluminum chloride associated with alginate solution in coagulation-ultrafiltration (UF) process

Ying Long et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of calcium ions and polyaluminum chloride on membrane fouling in the coagulation-ultrafiltration process, revealing synergistic effects between the two agents. By using density functional theory calculations and explaining the thermodynamic mechanisms, a theoretical explanation for such filtration behaviors was proposed.

Enhancing anammox resistance to low operating temperatures with the use of PVA gel beads

Jinxing Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of gel beads to enhance the resistance of anammox biomass to low temperatures. The results showed that gel beads promoted the granulation of biomass and improved anammox activities in temperature transition. The study demonstrated an effective approach to increase anammox resistance at low operating temperatures.
