HM-chromanone inhibits adipogenesis by regulating adipogenic transcription factors and AMPK in 3T3-L1 adipocytes

Ji Young Je et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that HM-chromanone extracted from Portulaca oleracea L. inhibits adipocyte differentiation and adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 cells by regulating adipogenic transcription factors and activating AMPK. The results suggest that HM-chromanone may be a potential anti-adipogenesis agent that targets adipogenic transcription factors.

Rosmarinic acid attenuates obesity and obesity-related inflammation in human adipocytes

Liliya V. Vasileva et al.

Summary: Chronic low-grade inflammation is a characteristic of obesity and its metabolic disorders. Signaling from pro-inflammatory factors like TGF-beta or IL-17A is crucial for fibroblast progenitor cells to differentiate into adipocytes. Modulation of inflammation during adipogenic differentiation could be a potential approach to prevent metabolic disorders. Rosmarinic acid (RA), known for its anti-inflammatory effects, has the potential to prevent inflammation and excessive lipid accumulation in human adipocytes, suggesting a potential treatment for obesity and obesity-related inflammation.

Hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance in the obese may develop as part of a homeostatic response to elevated free fatty acids: A mechanistic case-control and a population-based cohort study

Emanuel Fryk et al.

Summary: The study suggests that in obese individuals, hyperinsulinemia is mainly caused by elevated free fatty acids, which is a significant factor in the development of insulin resistance in obesity. Additionally, obese subjects with normal glycemia do not show significant differences in lipolysis compared to lean individuals.

Obesity and aging: Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic approaches

Ana L. Santos et al.

Summary: Obesity poses a major challenge for health policymakers due to its increased risk of acute and chronic diseases and potential financial burden on healthcare systems. The metabolic dysregulation associated with obesity is similar to that observed in normal aging, suggesting the potential for obesity to accelerate aging. Understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying obesity and aging could provide insights into the development of chronic health complications.

Anti-angiogenesis Function of Ononin via Suppressing the MEK/Erk Signaling Pathway

Guowei Gong et al.

Summary: Ononin, a bioactive compound found in functional foods or plants, has been shown to exhibit anticancer properties in both in vitro and in vivo studies. In this study, ononin was also found to inhibit endothelial cell angiogenesis and suppress tumor cell proliferation. The potential role of ononin as a candidate for prevention and treatment of angiogenesis-related diseases was highlighted in this research.

Quantitative determination of isoflavonoids inOnonisspecies by UPLC-UV-DAD

Nora Gampe et al.

Summary: Quantitative determination of isoflavones, isoflavanones and pterocarpans was carried out using ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with ultraviolet diode-array detection. An optimised sample preparation method was developed to convert malonyl glucosides to their glucosidic forms. Chromatographic methods were established for the baseline separation of the compounds in Ononis spinosa and O. arvensis, with no characteristic change observed between the two species in terms of their isoflavonoid pattern.
