Mitochondrial Function and Anesthetic Sensitivity in the Mouse Spinal Cord

Christian B. Woods et al.

Summary: The study revealed that spinal cord neurons from Ndufs4 knockout mice were more sensitive to isoflurane compared to wild-type, while there were no significant differences in synaptic or intrinsic neuronal function. It was found that noncholinergic neurons mediated the increased holding current sensitivity in the ventral horn of Ndufs4(KO) mice.

Effects of sevoflurane anesthesia and abdominal surgery on the systemic metabolome: a prospective observational study

Yiyong Wei et al.

Summary: The study included 500 patients undergoing abdominal surgery, finding that anesthesia and surgery may impact key metabolic pathways including the tricarboxylic acid cycle, glycometabolism, and glutamate metabolism. Patients with high sevoflurane exposure showed significantly higher levels of certain metabolites after sevoflurane anesthesia and surgery compared to those with low sevoflurane exposure.
