ASB16-AS1 up-regulated and phosphorylated TRIM37 to activate NF-κB pathway and promote proliferation, stemness, and cisplatin resistance of gastric cancer

Tao Fu et al.

Summary: ASB16-AS1, upregulated in GC, enhances proliferative ability and stem cell-like characteristics in GC cells, promoting in vivo GC cell growth. Mechanistically, ASB16-AS1 strengthens TRIM37 expression by sequestering specific miRNAs and activates NF-kappa B pathway through ATM kinase, contributing to oncogenic functions in GC.

Reduced LINC00551 expression promotes proliferation and invasion of esophageal squamous cancer by increase in HSP27 phosphorylation

Xiong Peng et al.

Summary: The lncRNA LINC00551 plays a significant role in ESCC development and progression, with downregulated expression associated with poor prognosis for ESCC patients. Overexpression of LINC00551 inhibits ESCC cell proliferation and invasion, while knockdown promotes these processes. LINC00551 binds to HSP27 and decreases its phosphorylation, thereby regulating ESCC cell proliferation and invasion.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Simultaneous Expression of Long Non-Coding RNA FAL1 and Extracellular Matrix Protein 1 Defines Tumour Behaviour in Young Patients with Papillary Thyroid Cancer

Seonhyang Jeong et al.

Summary: FAL1 upregulation has been reported in various types of human cancer, with a simultaneous upregulation adjacent to chromosome 1q21.3 identified using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. c-JUN and JUND were selected as master transcription factors for FAL1, and the molecular biological features represented RAS-driven papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). This simultaneous upregulation could potentially serve as a diagnostic and therapeutic target for RAS-driven PTC.

Systematic Analysis of Intronic miRNAs Reveals Cooperativity within the Multicomponent FTX Locus to Promote Colon Cancer Development

Zhi Hao Kwok et al.

Summary: This study reveals that in colon cancer, some miRNAs transcribed with their host genes cooperate to promote cancer growth, with noncoding RNA FTX regulating A-to-I RNA editing and intronic miRNAs inhibiting tumor suppressors. These findings highlight the complex interplay between intronic miRNAs and host transcripts in driving disease progression and expanding the functional landscape of multigenic loci.

Linc-KILH potentiates Notch1 signaling through inhibiting KRT19 phosphorylation and promotes the malignancy of hepatocellular carcinoma

Xudong Zhang et al.

Summary: Recent research has identified a novel lncRNA Linc-KILH, which is significantly up-regulated in HCC tissues and positively correlated with tumor size, microvascular invasion, intrahepatic metastasis and decreased survival in HCC patients. Silencing Linc-KILH can inhibit the proliferation and metastasis abilities of KRT19-positive HCC cells. Mechanistically, Linc-KILH interacts with KRT19 and inhibits the phosphorylation of KRT19, leading to enhanced translocation of KRT19 in HCC cells.
