Multisystemic manifestations of IgA vasculitis

Lina Du et al.

Summary: Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV), also known as Henoch-Schonlein Purpura, is a common systemic vasculitis in children, presenting with palpable skin purpura, arthritis, gastrointestinal tract involvement, and kidney damage. Rare systemic manifestations include neurological symptoms, scrotal involvement, and cardiopulmonary disease. Prompt diagnosis and adequate treatment are crucial for optimal outcomes.

IVIG ameliorate inflammation in collagen-induced arthritis: projection for IVIG therapy in rheumatoid arthritis

G. Halpert et al.

Summary: Treatment with IVIG significantly reduced clinical arthritis score in DBA/1j mice with collagen-induced arthritis. IVIG showed a mode of action by decreasing circulating levels of inflammatory cytokines and inhibiting anti-collagen antibodies. Histopathological examination revealed that IVIG treatment prevented inflammatory immune cells from migrating into cartilage and synovium, reducing joint damage and preserving joint architecture. These results suggest the valuable anti-inflammatory treatment of IVIG in experimental RA.

The prospects for targeting FcR as a novel therapeutic strategy in rheumatoid arthritis

Yujing Wu et al.

Summary: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by synovial hyperplasia, inflammation, and bone destruction. Targeted treatments involving immunoglobulin Fc receptors (FcRs) have shown promise in improving RA symptoms, with potential as alternative medications. Further research and understanding of FcR-targeting molecules are needed for better pharmacological characterization.

How I treat warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia

Wilma Barcellini et al.

Summary: Warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia is a disease caused by increased destruction of red blood cells by IgG autoantibodies, with complex pathogenic mechanisms and unpredictable prognosis. Treatment options include steroids, splenectomy, immunosuppressants, and rituximab, but challenges exist in choosing and managing these therapies.

Yasmine Lamri et al.

Summary: MCTD is a rare and complex autoimmune disease with high levels of anti-U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein 70k autoantibodies. Basophils and IgE play a role in MCTD pathophysiology and may serve as therapeutic targets for patients. Basophil activation and autoreactive IgE against U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein 70k were observed in both patients and an MCTD-like mouse model.

Making Sense of Intracellular Nucleic Acid Sensing in Type I Interferon Activation in Sjogren's Syndrome

Erika Huijser et al.

Summary: Primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) is a systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease characterized by dryness of the eyes and mucous membranes, with majority of patients exhibiting persistent systemic activation of the type I interferon (IFN) system. Dysregulated detection of endogenous nucleic acids (NAs) is widely implicated in the pathogenesis of systemic autoimmune diseases. Stimulation of endosomal Toll-like receptors by NA-containing immune complexes contributes to the systemic type I IFN activation.

Summary: In this study, pharmacologic co-engagement of BCR and human Fc gamma RIIb was found to inhibit B cell activation while preserving B cell numbers in non-autoimmune and SLE-prone hosts. These findings lay a strong foundation for clinical trials in human SLE and suggest that B6.hRIIb and NZM.hRIIb models could be powerful tools for elucidating the cellular and molecular changes induced by BCR/Fc gamma RIIb co-engagement.
