Entrainment and Its Dependency on Environmental Conditions and Convective Organization in Convection-Permitting Simulations

Tobias Becker et al.

Summary: In this study, bulk entrainment rates for deep convection in the tropical Atlantic Ocean were estimated. The study found that entrainment rates decrease with height, are generally higher over land than over ocean, and vary based on different environments within regions. Additionally, entrainment rates increase with environmental humidity and convective aggregation, but decrease with static stability over land.

Understanding mechanisms for trends in Sahelian squall lines: Roles of thermodynamics and shear

Megan E. Bickle et al.

Summary: Research suggests that squall lines dominate rainfall in the West African Sahel, with increasing intensity possibly driven by stronger wind shear due to climate change. However, global numerical models struggle to accurately capture the effects of shear on organized convection, leading to uncertainties in predicting changing rainfall intensities in the region. Further studies are needed to better understand and incorporate the role of shear in climate models to improve predictions of extreme rainfall events.
