Vibrationally excited molecular hydrogen production from the water photochemistry

Yao Chang et al.

Summary: The study reveals a new pathway to produce vibrationally excited H-2 through water photochemistry, complementing the previous understanding that vibrationally excited H-2 was mainly achieved by shock wave or far-ultraviolet fluorescence pumping. Experimental evidence from vacuum ultraviolet photodissociation of H2O shows that vibrationally excited H-2 can play a significant role in the interstellar space, indicating a need for recognition in appropriate interstellar chemistry models.

First Observation of the Oxygen 630 nm Emission in the Martian Dayglow

J. -C. Gerard et al.

Summary: The green oxygen emission was recently detected in the Martian dayglow using the NOMAD/UVIS instrument, and statistical analysis of the data led to the observation of the OI 630 nm emission. Comparison with a photochemical model showed good agreement with the observed characteristics, indicating a relationship between oxygen emission variations and changes in the Martian upper atmosphere composition.
