Constraints on the curvature of nuclear symmetry energy from recent astronomical data within the KIDS framework

Hana Gil et al.

Summary: In this paper, the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy is investigated in the framework of KIDS for the nuclear equation of state and energy-density functional. The aim is to constrain the value of the curvature parameter based on recent astronomical data. The results suggest that the symmetry energy has an inflection point within a certain density range.

Arelativistic quantum approach to neutrino and antineutrino emission via the direct Urca process in strongly magnetized neutron-star matter

Tomoyuki Maruyamaa et al.

Summary: In this paper, we study the emission of neutrinos and antineutrinos from the direct Urca process in neutron-star matter in the presence of strong magnetic fields. By calculating the neutrino emissivity and solving the wave functions, we find that the direct Urca process can satisfy the kinematic constraints even in density regions where it would not normally occur without a magnetic field.

Astrophysical Constraints on the Symmetry Energy and the Neutron Skin of 208Pb with Minimal Modeling Assumptions

Reed Essick et al.

Summary: The symmetry energy and its density dependence play crucial roles in nuclear and astrophysics, influencing properties ranging from the neutron-skin thickness of nuclei to the radius of neutron stars. Observations of neutron stars have allowed for constraints on the symmetry energy S-0, slope parameter L, and the neutron skin thickness of Pb-208, indicating a preference for smaller values of neutron skin and L.

Constraints on Nuclear Saturation Properties from Terrestrial Experiments and Astrophysical Observations of Neutron Stars

Soonchul Choi et al.

Summary: By considering terrestrial experiments and recent astrophysical observations, constraints are imposed on the equation of state for isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter. The softness of the nuclear EoS due to the existence of hyperons in the core plays an important role in restricting physical quantities and the curvature parameter of nuclear symmetry energy can be limited through nuclear and astrophysical calculations.

Accurate Determination of the Neutron Skin Thickness of 208Pb through Parity-Violation in Electron Scattering

D. Adhikari et al.

Summary: The study reports a precise measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry A(pv) in elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from Pb-208, extracting key parameters such as neutron skin thickness and interior baryon density. This measurement accurately constrains the density dependence of the symmetry energy of nuclear matter near saturation density, with implications for the size and composition of neutron stars.

Implications of PREX-2 on the Equation of State of Neutron-Rich Matter

Brendan T. Reed et al.

Summary: Laboratory experiments sensitive to the equation of state of neutron rich matter in the vicinity of nuclear saturation density provide crucial data connecting terrestrial experiments to astronomical observations. The neutron skin thickness of Pb-208 further constrains the density dependence of the symmetry energy. The impact of a stiff symmetry energy on critical neutron-star observables is studied.

Progress in Constraining Nuclear Symmetry Energy Using Neutron Star Observables Since GW170817

Bao-An Li et al.

Summary: The density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy is one of the most uncertain parts of the Equation of State (EOS) of dense neutron-rich nuclear matter. New observational data of neutron stars since GW170817 have contributed to an improved understanding of nuclear symmetry energy, particularly at high densities.

Detailed examination of astrophysical constraints on the symmetry energy and the neutron skin of 208Pb with minimal modeling assumptions

Reed Essick et al.

Summary: The study found that observations from heavy pulsar masses, LIGO/Virgo, and NICER prefer smaller values of the neutron skin and L, as well as negative symmetry incompressibilities. Combining astrophysical data with chiral effective field theory (chi EFT) and PREX-II constraints yields specific values for S-0, L, and R-skin(208Pb). There is good agreement between chi EFT, astrophysical observations, and other nuclear experiments.

Symmetry energy dilemma within a relativistic quark model

Himanshu S. Sahoo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of variation in symmetry energy on the observational properties of neutron stars with different compositions, using a relativistic quark model. The results show that a stiff symmetry energy meets the current constraints on maximum mass and radius, but conflicts with tidal deformability values.

Incompressibility and symmetry energy of a neutron star

Summary: This study systematically investigates the structural and isospin compositional properties of neutron stars using a coherent density fluctuation model. The neutron star matter's energy density functional is obtained through polynomial fitting of saturation curves with three different relativistic mean-field parameter sets. The NL3 parameter set shows higher magnitudes for all properties compared to G3 and IU-FSU sets.

Implications of PREX-2 on the electric dipole polarizability of neutron-rich nuclei

J. Piekarewicz

Summary: The study focuses on the constraints of symmetry energy through the neutron skin thickness of Pb-208 and electric dipole polarizability, finding significant discrepancies between theoretical predictions and experimental values. These experimental tools offer clues to constrain the symmetry energy around nuclear saturation density, but there remains a contradiction in the hardness of the symmetry energy.
