Accurate flux calibration of GW170817: is the X-ray counterpart on the rise?

E. Troja et al.

Summary: The X-ray emission from the GW170817 gravitational wave transient is described as non-thermal afterglow radiation produced by a structured relativistic jet viewed off-axis, and continues to be detected 3.3 years after the merger. While there is no evidence of an increase in X-ray flux, a growing tension between observations and the jet model is confirmed, prompting the need for further observations at radio and X-ray wavelengths to break the degeneracy between models.

Discovery of Three Candidate Magnetar-powered Fast X-Ray Transients from Chandra Archival Data

Dacheng Lin et al.

Summary: Three new fast X-ray transients (FXTs) were discovered from a preliminary search over Chandra archival data. Similar to CDF-S XT2, these newly discovered FXTs are strong candidates for magnetar-powered X-ray transients resulting from binary neutron star mergers.

Evidence for X-Ray Emission in Excess to the Jet-afterglow Decay 3.5 yr after the Binary Neutron Star Merger GW 170817: A New Emission Component

A. Hajela et al.

Summary: This paper reports on the excess of X-ray emission observed more than 900 days after the GW 170817 binary neutron star merger event, which deviates from the previous models and may be caused by the mildly relativistic shock generated by the merger ejecta.

Summary: In the past few years, around 30 similar extragalactic fast X-ray transients (FXRTs) have been discovered in Chandra and XMM-Newton data. Their origin is still uncertain, but this study uses optical observations to find extended sources and potential host galaxies for two FXRTs, excluding a supernova shock breakout scenario for one of them.

First tidal disruption events discovered by SRG/eROSITA: X-ray/optical properties and X-ray luminosity function at z < 0.6

S. Sazonov et al.

Summary: This study presents the first sample of tidal disruption events (TDEs) discovered during the SRG all-sky survey. The X-ray spectra of these events are consistent with critical accretion onto black holes, with potential supercritical accretion in some cases. Optical brightening was observed in four TDEs, while the majority showed no optical activity. The study suggests that X-ray bright events constitute a minority of TDEs, with a detection threshold that can be lowered to potentially detect around 700 TDEs by the end of the survey.

Core-collapse, superluminous, and gamma-ray burst supernova host galaxy populations at low redshift: the importance of dwarf and starbursting galaxies

K. Taggart et al.

Summary: The study shows that core-collapse supernovae (CCSNe) are found in galaxies across a wide range of stellar masses, with 33% in dwarf galaxies and 21% in dwarf starburst galaxies. The relative supernova rate of superluminous supernovae (SLSN) to CCSN increases in low-mass galaxies and at high specific star formation rates (sSFR).

X-Ray Properties of TDEs (vol 216, 85, 2020)

R. Saxton et al.

Summary: Observational astronomy of tidal disruption events (TDEs) started with the detection of X-ray flares in quiescent galaxies during the ROSAT all-sky survey of 1990-1991. Further discoveries of TDEs by XMM-Newton, Chandra, and Swift have provided insights into accretion physics, revealing conditions necessary for launching jets and winds. Evidence is growing for both nuclear and non-nuclear intermediate mass black holes based on TDE flares.
