K2-79b and K2-222b: Mass Measurements of Two Small Exoplanets with Periods beyond 10 days that Overlap with Periodic Magnetic Activity Signals

Chantanelle Nava et al.

Summary: We present mass and radius measurements of K2-79b and K2-222b, two exoplanets orbiting active G-type stars. We propose a method to mitigate interference caused by stellar magnetic activity. Through correlation and periodogram analyses, we identify optimal observing seasons with minimal interference, and confidently detect the mass of each exoplanet.

Moderately misaligned orbit of the warm sub-Saturn HD 332231 b

E. Sedaghati et al.

Summary: Measurements of exoplanetary orbital obliquity angles are crucial for testing planet formation theories. However, measuring the obliquity of transiting planets with long orbital periods is a challenging task. In this study, we successfully measured the obliquity of the warm sub-Saturn planet HD 332231 b using spectroscopic and transit observations. The obtained results challenge the Laplacian ideals of planet formation.

A. G. A. Brown et al.

Summary: Gaia EDR3 is the early installment of the third data release from the Gaia project, providing astrometry and photometry for 1.8 billion sources brighter than magnitude 21, along with radial velocities from Gaia DR2. The data processing precision and homogeneity have significantly improved compared to the previous version, with additional information on celestial bodies and an updated celestial reference frame.

I. Carleo et al.

Summary: This study validated the physical nature of two Neptune-sized planets transiting the previously unacknowledged young star TOI-942, observed by the TESS space mission. Through comprehensive stellar characterization, TESS light curve modeling, and precise radial-velocity measurements, an additional transiting planet in the system on a larger orbit was detected.

New Perspectives on the Exoplanet Radius Gap from a Mathematica Tool and Visualized Water Equation of State

Li Zeng et al.

Summary: Recent astronomical observations have revealed a large number of exoplanets with sizes between Earth and Neptune, as well as a low occurrence rate of planets at about twice the size of Earth. The geometry of this gap in the mass-radius diagram was explored using a Mathematica plotting tool and visualized water equations of state. The radius valley can be explained by a compositional difference between smaller rocky planets and larger planets with greater compositional diversity including cosmic ices and gaseous envelopes.

Detection of Ionized Calcium in the Atmosphere of the Ultra-hot Jupiter WASP-76b

Emily K. Deibert et al.

Summary: New high-resolution transit spectroscopy of the ultra-hot Jupiter WASP-76b reveals absorption features of neutral sodium and a new detection of the ionized calcium triplet in its atmosphere, with line depths significantly larger than predicted by models. This suggests that the probed layers are either significantly hotter than predicted by radiative equilibrium and/or in a hydrodynamic state, shedding light on the exotic atmosphere of this ultra-hot world.

Resolving period aliases for TESS monotransits recovered during the extended mission

Benjamin F. Cooke et al.

Summary: The study found that TESS will detect around 400 exoplanets with two identified transits, each having an average of 38 period aliases. By combining different observational strategies, such as NGTS and CORALIE, it is possible to solve the true aliases for many systems and determine their periods. Upgrading to HARPS over CORALIE can further improve the accuracy of period determination for these systems.

TOI-257b (HD 19916b): a warm sub-saturn orbiting an evolved F-type star

Brett C. Addison et al.

Summary: TOI-257b is a warm sub-Saturn discovered orbiting a slightly evolved F-type star, with characteristics of a planet mass of 0.138M(J) and a radius of 0.639R-J. Stellar asteroseismology data suggests the presence of a second non-transiting sub-Saturn mass planet in the system.
