Pseudomonas allii sp. nov., a pathogen causing soft rot of onion in Japan

Hiroyuki Sawada et al.

Summary: Six phytopathogenic bacterial strains were isolated from soft rot lesions of onion in Japan, identified as a novel Pseudomonas species named Pseudomonas allii. They show differences from their closest relatives in phenotypic characteristics, pathogenicity, and cellular fatty acid composition.

Anaerobic biodegradation of phenol in wastewater treatment: achievements and limits

M. Concetta Tomei et al.

Summary: Anaerobic biodegradation of toxic compounds in industrial wastewater is an attractive solution for energy and resource recovery, but faces challenges due to low kinetics compared to aerobic processes. Research on anaerobic phenol degradation focuses on microbiological and technological aspects to enhance competitiveness, with a gap still existing between aerobic and anaerobic performance. Efforts are needed to develop powerful technologies and effective strategies to improve the anaerobic process and move towards more sustainable wastewater treatment.
