Differences and similarities of physical activity determinants between older adults who have and have not experienced a fall: Testing an extended health belief model

Navin Kaushal et al.

Summary: This study found that perceived barriers significantly affected the intention to participate in physical activity among older adults with a history of falls. Past physical activity behavior was associated with decreased perceived threat of falling, highlighting the importance of providing a safe environment for older adults. The study also provides insights into interpreting and further investigating perceived threat and its antecedents within the Health Belief Model.

Effects of a health-belief-model-based osteoporosis- and fall-prevention program on women at early old age

Sukhee Ahn et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether a Health Belief Model (HBM)-based osteoporosis- and fall-prevention program could enhance knowledge, self-efficacy, and health behaviors among women aged 65 to 74. The findings showed that the intervention group demonstrated greater improvements in knowledge and behaviors related to osteoporosis and fall prevention, highlighting the effectiveness of the HBM-based program in promoting healthy behaviors among elderly women. Further research with more rigorous designs is recommended to validate these results.

Older Adults' Experience With Fall Prevention Recommendations Derived From the STEADI

Jennifer L. Vincenzo et al.

Summary: The study investigated older adults' adherence to and perceptions of fall prevention recommendations, finding that a significant portion of older adults did not accurately recall or follow the recommendations, with exercise being the most common recommendation followed. The research also revealed that an unexpected facilitator for older adults' participation in fall prevention efforts was their perception of positively influencing society by working with students in research collaborations.
