Study on the modification effect of copper on Al-15Mg2Si composite

L. Hesami et al.

Summary: The study found that adding Cu can reduce the average size of primary Mg2Si particles in the material and modify their morphology, forming hard Cu-rich compounds in the microstructure. Tensile test results show that composites containing 3.0 wt % Cu exhibit the best mechanical properties. However, increasing the Cu content beyond 3 wt % leads to an increase in brittle Cu-rich compounds, affecting the quality of the composite.

Comparative Evaluation of Ex Situ and In Situ Method of Fabricating Aluminum/TiB2 Composites

V. S. Ayar et al.

Summary: The present study investigated the fabrication of Al-TiB2 composites using in situ and ex situ methods, focusing on the effect of processing temperature on the formation of titanium diboride particles. Comparative evaluation of the two methods was conducted, along with an analysis of various process parameters on mechanical properties. The results indicated that in situ composites exhibited a more homogeneous distribution of particles and higher mechanical properties compared to ex situ composites.

Enhanced mechanical properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy by inoculation and hot deformation

Mohammad Sajad Mehranpour et al.

Summary: The study focused on enhancing the mechanical properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy through the addition of a newly developed Al-5Ti-2B master alloy and subsequent hot extrusion process for structural refinement. The results showed that the grain refinement achieved through the addition of the master alloy and hot extrusion process led to an improvement in mechanical properties, with a superior strength-ductility trade-off compared to the as-cast counterparts. This was attributed to the disappearance of the grain boundary beta-Mg17Al12 phase and the formation of a recrystallized and homogeneous microstructure in the extruded alloys.

A comprehensive review on the dispersion and survivability issues of carbon nanotubes in Al/CNT nanocomposites fabricated via friction stir processing

Abhishek Sharma et al.

Summary: This study provides a systematic literature review on Al/CNT nanocomposites fabricated through solid state friction stir processing, focusing on the dispersion and survivability of CNTs in the Al matrix. Research gaps in the field, such as agglomeration of CNTs and interfacial reactions between Al matrix and CNTs, are identified, along with suggestions for further research on effective dispersion of CNTs in the composite.
