Influence of sex and age on biochemical parameters of Lophiosilurus alexandri (Steindachner, 1876): First results

Reinaldo Melillo-Filho et al.

Summary: Male Lophiosilurus alexandri exhibited higher levels of certain blood biochemical parameters (ALT, magnesium, and triglycerides) at specific ages compared to females, while other parameters showed no significant differences. The study findings suggest that biochemical differences between males and females are less pronounced than those observed among different ages of the same sex.

Effects of different ratios of crude protein and non-fibrous carbohydrates on growth, metabolism, physiology, nutrient utilization and muscle cellularity of Lophiosilurus alexandri, a carnivorous freshwater fish

Jose Carlos de Oliveira-Junior et al.

Summary: The research evaluated the effects of different ratios of crude protein/non-fibrous carbohydrates (CP/NFC) on juvenile Lophiosilurus alexandri. Diets within CP/NFC ratios of 1.11-1.33 were found to improve fish productivity and nutrient utilization efficiency. The study also showed that different CP/NFC ratios affected plasma and metabolic variables, indicating a better physiological state in the juvenile fish.
