Synthesis and Characterisation of Super-Paramagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (SPIONs) for Minimising Aeromonas hydrophila Load from Freshwater

Munish Kumar et al.

Summary: The study aimed to prepare efficient super-paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle (SPIONs) for the removal of Aeromonas hydrophila from water. The results showed that the antibacterial effect of SPIONs depended on the concentration and exposure time. Low concentrations of SPIONs were sufficient to remove 100% of bacterial load in a short exposure time, while increasing the concentration of SPIONs increased the antibacterial effect. However, further research is needed to determine the safe concentration of SPIONs as a novel antibacterial agent in aquaculture.

T. Anagha et al.

Summary: The study revealed significant impacts of TiO2-NPs on hormone levels in adult female Labeo rohita, especially on reproductive and thyroid hormones as well as vitellogenin. Additionally, dietary supplementation of vitamin E and folic acid mitigated the toxic effects of TiO2-NPs, with vitamin E showing a more pronounced effect.

Genotoxicity, oxidative stress, and biochemical biomarkers of exposure to green synthesized cadmium nanoparticles in Oreochromis niloticus (L.)

Ahmed Th. A. Ibrahim et al.

Summary: The study revealed significant alterations in hematological and biochemical parameters, as well as cytotoxic and genotoxic effects on erythrocytes in fish exposed to green synthesized cadmium nanoparticles. Additionally, changes in cortisol, triiodothyronine, and thyroxine levels were observed, along with increased activities of aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase. The exposure to cadmium nanoparticles also led to oxidative damage, DNA fragmentation, and increased lipid peroxidation in various tissues, highlighting the toxic potential of Cd NPs on fish.
