An integrated approach for designing Joule-Thomson refrigerators operating with mixtures

E. G. Bychkov

Summary: This paper discusses the potential of low-performance throttle low-temperature closed-cycle Joule-Thomson refrigerators in the development of refrigeration equipment, emphasizing the need for an integrated approach to design new types of refrigeration equipment. It proposes a method for designing mixtures with more than three components, involving both design calculation and experimental stages. The results of experimental verification for a low-temperature medical refrigerator based on the original patented layout are presented.

Performance Characteristics of a Joule-Thomson Refrigeration System with Mixed Refrigerant Composition

Kwang-Seok Lee et al.

Summary: Research on the performance of refrigeration systems using different composition ratios of three refrigerants shows that as the proportion of high boiling point refrigerant increases, temperatures decrease, as the proportion of medium boiling point refrigerant increases, pressures decrease, and as the proportion of low boiling point refrigerant increases, cooling capacity tends to increase.

Experimental research on a Joule-Thomson refrigeration cycle with mixture R170/R290 for 60 °C low-temperature freezer

Tao Bai et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the feasibility of using a natural binary mixture of ethane/propane for refrigeration in a low-temperature freezer, with the concentration of the mixture significantly impacting system performance. Reducing the operating pressure and compression ratio could be possible directions to improve the performance of the low-temperature Joule-Thomson refrigerator working with R170/R290.
