Ying-Ying Wang et al.

Summary: Non-metal doping can enhance the visible light activity of TiO2-based photocatalysts by reducing the band gap and suppressing the recombination of electron-hole pairs. Different non-metal elements such as N, C, B, S, P, Halogens act as dopants to improve the efficiency of photocatalysis and photoelectrochemical water splitting.

Priyanka Marathey et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that covering the surface of cuprous oxide with Al (2%)-doped ZnO (AZO) or NiOx films can effectively improve the stability of photoelectrodes and reduce photocurrent degradation. Among them, NiOx overlayers can accelerate charge transfer kinetics and exhibit the minimum photocurrent degradation, showing potential in hydrogen evolution reaction kinetics.

Observation of suppressed photocurrent of plasmonic Au on TiO2 by a double light beam method

Xinzhou Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, a double light beam method was used to investigate the enhanced effect of Au nanoparticles on TiO2 single crystals, revealing a significant decrease in photocurrent production due to inter-band transition. Analysis with Mott-Schottky plotting also showed a decrease in photogenerated Au hot hole concentration. These findings indicate that inter-band transition plays a key role in reducing the photocurrent of Au nanoparticles.

Influence of deposition potential on the photoelectrochemical cathodic protection behavior of n-type Cu@Cu2O films

Ping Qiu et al.

Summary: Cu@Cu2O films were prepared by electrochemical deposition and characterized by various techniques. The study showed that a lower deposition potential led to smaller Cu2O grain size and increased Cu content in the films. Furthermore, the Cu@Cu2O films demonstrated efficient photoelectrochemical cathodic protection under visible light illumination.

Direct Z-scheme WO3-x nanowire-bridged TiO2 nanorod arrays for highly efficient photoelectrochemical overall water splitting

Sheng Lin et al.

Summary: A direct Z-scheme photoelectrocatalytic electrode based on a WO3-x nanowire-bridged TiO2 nanorod array heterojunction was constructed for overall water splitting and hydrogen evolution. The WO3-x/TiO2 heterojunction exhibited superior photoelectrochemical activity, achieving high rates of hydrogen and oxygen evolution without the need for sacrificial agents or redox mediators. The efficient charge transfer pathway between WO3-x nanowires and TiO2 nanorods, presence of oxygen vacancies in WO3-x, and applied bias potential on the photoelectrode all contributed to the superior overall water splitting performance.
