Catalytic enhancement of small sizes of CeO2 additives on Ir/Al2O3 for toluene oxidation

Zhiqiang Wang et al.

Summary: The study presents a novel catalyst Ir/Ce/gamma-Al2O3 for complete oxidation of toluene, featuring small CeO2 and Ir-0 nanoparticles that exhibit higher catalytic activity. Results from XRD, TEM, Raman, and XPS indicate a strong interaction between IrO2 and small CeO2 nanoparticles, leading to enhanced catalytic performance. This development in synthesizing iridium-based catalysts shows promise for the catalytic oxidation of VOCs.

Bimetallic platinum/iridium modified mesoporous catalysts applied in the hydrogenation of HMF

Brenda Ledesma et al.

Summary: The study investigated the catalytic transformation of HMF to produce 2,5-DMF over bimetallic (PtIr) and monometallic (Pt) catalysts supported on CMK-3 and SBA-15 mesoporous materials. It was found that PtIr-CMK-3 catalyst exhibited excellent activity, selectivity, and stability in this process, with well-reduced and highly dispersed metallic particles on the surface of supports having large surface area and narrow pore size distribution. The PtIr alloy species catalytic sites were very active and selective towards the formation of 2,5-DMF.

Advantageous Role of Ir0 Supported on TiO2 Nanosheets in Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction to CH4: Fast Electron Transfer and Rich Surface Hydroxyl Groups

Kunlin Tang et al.

Summary: Heterogeneous catalysts based on Ir for photocatalytic CO2 reduction have been rarely reported and are worth investigating. In this study, TiO2 nanosheets with a higher specific surface area and more oxygen vacancies were used to support Ir metal, resulting in excellent CO2 reduction performance, especially for CH4 production. The interaction between oxygen defects in TiO2 and metallic Ir was found to play a significant role in promoting the photoreduction of CO2 to CH4.

Unraveling the decisive role of surface CeO2 nanoparticles in the Pt-CeO2/MnO2 hetero-catalysts for boosting toluene oxidation: Synergistic effect of surface decorated and intrinsic O-vacancies

Shengpeng Mo et al.

Summary: Oxygen vacancy engineering plays a vital role in efficient degradation of volatile organic compounds in nanomaterials. The Pt-0.15Ce-Mn catalyst demonstrates superior catalytic activity for toluene oxidation due to more oxygen vacancies, excellent redox ability, and well dispersion of Pt. Introduction of CeO2 NPs induces the generation of more oxygen vacancies and new structure defects, leading to lower formation energy of oxygen vacancy and boosting remarkable catalytic activity for deep toluene oxidation through a synergistic effect of dual oxygen vacancies.

Summary: This study demonstrated efficient catalytic combustion of toluene over Pt/gamma-Al2O3 catalysts by tailoring active Pt species spatially. The catalyst with low Pt-content showed super activity and water-resistant stability. The strong metal-support interaction at the Al-OH-Pt interfaces elongated the Pt-O bond and contributed to the oxidation of toluene.

Understanding the crucial roles of catalyst properties in ethyl acetate and toluene oxidation over Pt catalysts

Wenxia Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that different metal oxide supports have a significant impact on the properties of platinum catalysts, leading to different performances in ethyl acetate and toluene oxidation reactions. The activity of ethyl acetate oxidation depends on the oxygen vacancy density, while the synergistic catalysis mechanism of Pt-0 species and oxygen vacancies plays a crucial role in toluene oxidation.
