Bioprocess-inspired preparation of silica with varied morphologies and potential in lithium storage

Fuqiang Wan et al.

Summary: In this study, silica materials with diverse morphologies were synthesized using a bacterial phage as a biotemplate and applied as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. The silica materials showed significantly improved electronic conductivity and capacity to accommodate volume variations, contributing to impressive performance and stability in electrochemical tests. The biomimetic strategy used in this study demonstrates the potential for preparing sophisticated structures with outstanding properties.

Fabrication of Chiral M13 Bacteriophage Film by Evaporation-Induced Self-Assembly

Soon Mo Park et al.

Summary: Biomacromolecules are likely to exhibit specific collective behavior through self-assembly in the medium, although direct demonstration of this behavior in dynamic systems is limited. A study on the drying process of M13 droplet was conducted, successfully simulated using a doctor blade coating method, showing potential for using biomacromolecules as a scaffold for multi-functional chiral structures.
