Low field control of spin switching and continuous magnetic transition in an ErFeO3 single crystal

Xiaoxuan Ma et al.

Summary: The magnetic behavior of a rare-earth orthoferrite ErFeO3 single crystal can be controlled by low magnetic fields, with two types of spin switching observed below the spin reorientation transition temperature. The applied magnetic fields can regulate the spin switching along the a-axis of the single crystal, while understanding the magnetic reversal effects can help explore potential applications in information devices.

Ground state spin structure of GdFeO3: A computational and experimental study

Pralay Paul et al.

Summary: Magnetization studies and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were conducted on single-phase, polycrystalline GdFeO3, revealing an anti-ferromagnetic transition associated with Gd3+ spin and the most energetically favorable spin structures for Fe3+ and Gd3+ sub-lattices. The experimentally observed magnetic moment per Fe3+ ion was found to be consistent with the calculated result.

Spin flop type metamagnetic transition in polycrystalline GdFeO3

Pralay Paul et al.

Summary: Our study on the polycrystalline GdFeO3 compound revealed an antiferromagnetic transition associated with Gd3+ spins and a spin-flop type metamagnetic transition linked to Gd3+ sub lattice. Additionally, weak hysteresis behavior related to canted Fe3+ moments near-zero field region was observed, with a remnant magnetization of around 0.022 mu(B).

Magnetic properties of high entropy oxides

Abhishek Sarkar et al.

Summary: High entropy oxides (HEOs) are single phase solid solutions with extreme chemical complexity, containing multiple elements in equiatomic proportions incorporated into the cationic sub-lattice. The unique feature of HEOs lies in their unusually large number of different metal-oxygen-metal couples, which can affect magnetic correlations and potentially lead to stabilization of unconventional spin-electronic states. Further research and exploration of potential functionalities in HEOs are discussed in this Frontier article.
