Composition-dependent ultrafast THz emission of spintronic CoFe/Pt thin films

Robert Schneider et al.

Summary: We measured the transient THz emission of ultrathin spintronic bilayers consisting of a cobalt-iron alloy and platinum, and found that the THz emission amplitude changes only slightly with varying cobalt content. Additionally, we fabricated multilayer stacks and observed an increase of up to 36% in THz amplitude compared to a single bilayer CoFe/Pt spintronic emitter.

Atomic Scale Control of Spin Current Transmission at Interfaces

Mohamed Amine Wahada et al.

Summary: Ferromagnet/heavy metal bilayers are important for spintronic devices, where the magnetization of the ferromagnet can be controlled by spin currents generated in the heavy metal. This study demonstrates that the spin current transmission at the ferromagnet/heavy metal interface is only partial when using Ta as the heavy metal, while this effect is absent when Pt is used. This is attributed to magnetic moment reduction caused by 3d-5d hybridization effects. However, this effect can be avoided by using atomically thin interlayers. The study suggests that this is a general effect and occurs for all 5d metals with less than half-filled 5d shell.

Transition of laser-induced terahertz spin currents from torque- to conduction-electron-mediated transport

Pilar Jimenez-Cavero et al.

Summary: Spin transport is crucial for future spintronic devices. Laser-driven spin currents in F|Pt stacks are studied to identify the mechanism of spin transport, which is mediated by spin-polarized conduction electrons and/or torque between electron spins. The study reveals similar dynamics and provides an estimation of the spin-mixing conductance of the interfaces. In addition, two spin-current components with opposite directions are observed in the half-metallic ferrimagnet Fe3O4, supporting the magneto-electronic model of Fe3O4.

Ultrafast photocurrents in MoSe2 probed by terahertz spectroscopy

Denis Yagodkin et al.

Summary: Using terahertz emission spectroscopy, we studied femtosecond photocurrent dynamics in the 2D semiconductor MoSe2, identifying different mechanisms of THz radiation generation in BL and ML samples. THz radiation in ML is produced by out-of-plane currents on a picosecond timescale, while in BL it is generated by in-plane shift current. Additionally, oscillations at around 23 THz in the emission from BL are attributed to quantum beats between two excitonic states with an energy separation of about 100 meV.

Terahertz Spin-to-Charge Conversion by Interfacial Skew Scattering in Metallic Bilayers

Oliver Gueckstock et al.

Summary: This study investigated ultrafast spin-to-charge-current conversion in F|N bilayers using terahertz emission spectroscopy. It found that varying the structure of the F/N interface can significantly impact the amplitude and polarity of the charge current, with a dominant interface contribution observed in materials with small spin Hall angle. The results suggest the potential of skew scattering for enhancing interfacial spin-to-charge conversion.

Summary: This study investigates nanometric trilayers of Co/X/Pt to explore the relationship between THz spin-to-charge conversion and traditional ferromagnetic resonance techniques. The results show that the ultrafast spin current and Gilbert damping in the trilayer are interconnected, and spin-memory-losses can be modeled via an effective Hamiltonian with Rashba fields. This work contributes to the understanding of spin-to-charge conversion processes and the potential application of magneto-circuit concepts in ultrafast spintronic devices.
