Xanthan Gum Hydrogels as High-Capacity Adsorbents for Dye Removal

Dennis Gitau Njuguna et al.

Summary: Xanthan gum-based hydrogels were synthesized as efficient adsorbents for dye pollutants removal from wastewaters. The adsorption mechanism was primarily attributed to electrostatic interactions and hydrogel swelling. The hydrogel exhibited a high theoretical q(max) towards Gentian Violet at pH 8 to 9 and could be regenerated with HCl for at least 4 cycles with over 99% dye removal efficiency.
