Effects of GAC and UV/H2O2-GAC filtration on the bacterial community and opportunistic pathogens in simulated drinking water systems

Lixin Huo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of GAC and UV/H2O2-GAC filtration on bacteria and opportunistic pathogens in simulated drinking water systems. Results showed that these filtration methods improved organic carbon removal efficiency, reduced bacterial diversity, and decreased bacterial attachment and biofilm formation, which ultimately lowered bacterial chlorine resistance. The study also found a decrease in specific pathogens, such as Legionella, Mycobacteria, and Pseudomonas, in the effluents and biofilms of GAC and UV/H2O2-GAC treated water systems.
