The life cycle climate performance evaluation of low-GWP refrigerants for domestic heat pumps

Changru Yang et al.

Summary: This article evaluates the life cycle climate performance (LCCP) of various low-GWP refrigerants as replacements for R410A in domestic heat pumps. Among the compared refrigerants, the binary blend of HFC32/HF01234ze(E) with a GWP of 300 shows the lowest LCCP. Low-GWP refrigerants may become more competitive than R410A when CO2 emissions from energy generation are reduced through system optimization or the use of renewable energy.

Full energy sector transition towards 100% renewable energy supply: Integrating power, heat, transport and industry sectors including desalination

Dmitrii Bogdanov et al.

Summary: The transition towards long-term sustainable energy systems by 2050 requires the elimination of greenhouse gas emissions in all energy sectors and close coupling of these sectors for maximum efficiency. The research showcases a tool for modeling this complex energy system transition, with results from Kazakhstan showing that a 100% renewable energy system by 2050 is possible despite challenging conditions. The integration of sectors enables additional flexibility and efficiency, with the potential to significantly reduce CO2eq emissions by 2050.

Absorption heat transformer- state-of-the-art of industrial applications

Falk Cudok et al.

Summary: The utilization of waste heat or low-exergy heat sources is a strategic opportunity for reducing environmental impact and operational costs in industrial processes. The absorption heat transformer, a thermal machine that can boost heat flow temperature with minimal electrical power, has faced questions about its feasibility and reliability due to limited technical knowledge and records of successful applications. This paper presents and discusses industrial applications of absorption heat transformers, along with technical challenges, solutions, and economic aspects of installations.
