Nanostructured ceria-based catalysts doped with La and Nd: How acid-base sites and redox properties determine the oxidation mechanisms

Enrico Sartoretti et al.

Summary: In this study, novel ceria-based nanocatalysts containing different quantities of La and Nd were prepared and their structural and physico-chemical properties were examined. Doping with La and Nd altered the morphology and oxygen deficiency of ceria and affected the catalytic activity towards CO, NO, and soot oxidation. Among them, the Ce-La equimolar oxide exhibited outstanding performances due to its optimal morphology and surface acidity.

The superior hydrothermal stability of Pd/SSZ-39 in low temperature passive NOx adsorption (PNA) and methane combustion

Konstantin Khivantsev et al.

Summary: Uniform SSZ-39 crystals were synthesized to support Pd for PNA, with Pd primarily dispersed as isolated Pd(II) and Pd(II)-OH centers suitable for low-temperature passive NOx adsorption. The new material exhibited superior hydrothermal stability compared to Pd/SSZ-13, surviving aging up to 815 degrees C without significant loss of activity. In addition to PNA, the hydrothermally stable material can also serve as a robust methane combustion catalyst under practical conditions.

Synergistic catalysis by Mn promoted ceria for molecular oxygen assisted epoxidation

Shanka Dissanayake et al.

Summary: Mesoporous manganese doped cerium oxide catalysts prepared by inverse micelle method show superior activity in epoxidation of alkenes, with high conversion rate and selectivity. The high catalytic activity can be attributed to the specific fluorite crystal structure, high oxygen mobility, and the unique mechanism involving in situ generated reactive oxygen species.

Biomimetic CO oxidation below-100 °C by a nitrate-containing metal-free microporous system

Konstantin Khivantsev et al.

Summary: CO oxidation is important for both inorganic and living systems. Transition and precious metals can oxidize CO to CO2 on various materials, while aerobic organisms perform CO oxidation with nitrate using complex enzymes at ambient temperatures. Nitrate can facilitate CO oxidation, leading to the transformation of NOx and CO species in zeolite systems.

In Situ/Operando IR and Theoretical Studies on the Mechanism of NH3-SCR of NO/NO2 over H-CHA Zeolites

Chong Liu et al.

Summary: The mechanism of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of a NO/NO2 mixture by NH3 over H-CHA zeolites was revealed through in situ/operando IR spectroscopy and DFT calculations. It was found that fast SCR is 2 orders of magnitude faster than standard SCR by H-CHA, with the disproportionation of NO2 playing a key role in initiating the reaction.
