Milk losses and dynamics during perturbations in dairy cows differ with parity and lactation stage

I Adriaens et al.

Summary: This study investigated the characteristics of milk yield dynamics during perturbations in dairy cows milked with an automated milking system. Results showed that most cows experienced multiple perturbations within the first 305 days after calving, with higher parity cows experiencing more severe perturbations. The method to characterize perturbations can be used for precision phenotyping purposes to understand cows' responses to challenges.

Psychosocial stress and cortisol stress reactivity predict breast milk composition

Anna Ziomkiewicz et al.

Summary: The study examined the impact of perinatal psychosocial stress on breast milk composition in a sample of 146 Polish breastfeeding mothers and their infants. Stress reactivity was found to be associated with milk fat and fatty acids, and negatively correlated with milk lactose. Maternal psychological status during the peripartum period should be monitored to promote breastfeeding and infant nutrition.

Cow milking order and its influence on milk production in a pasture-based automatic milking system

B. R. Cullen et al.

Summary: The study indicates that there is a correlation between milking order and milk yield in automatic milking systems, with cows at the beginning of the milking order having higher milk yield. Further research on grazing-management strategies for cows at the end of the milking order accessing fresh pasture is recommended.
