CeO2 supported Pd dimers boosting CO2 hydrogenation to ethanol

Yang Lou et al.

Summary: CeO2-supported Pd dimers show high activity and selectivity in converting CO2 to ethanol, with a selectivity of 99.2% and a space-time yield of 45.6 g(ethanol) g(Pd)(-1) h(-1). The unique Pd2O4 configuration of Pd dimers enables the direct dissociation of CO2 to CO and C-C coupling, while appropriately inhibiting further C2+ coupling, leading to selective ethanol formation. The strategy of constructing atom-precision active sites opens new avenues for developing highly selective catalysts for CO2/CO hydrogenation reactions.

Enhanced Selective Oxidation of Benzyl Alcohol via In Situ H2O2 Production over Supported Pd-Based Catalysts

Caitlin M. Crombie et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that bimetallic Pd-Fe catalysts supported on TiO2 are highly effective in oxidizing benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde through the in situ production of H2O2. The enhanced activity of Pd-Fe catalysts, compared to other analogues, can be attributed to their bifunctionality for synthesizing H2O2 and catalyzing the production of oxygen-based radical species.

Methane Oxidation to Methanol in Water

Simon J. Freakley et al.

Summary: Methane oxidation to methanol is a challenging topic due to high energy barriers and prevention of overoxidation to CO2. Over the past 50 years, low-temperature selective methane oxidation to methanol has remained an active area of research. Studies show that using molecular oxygen is more ideal, but there are still challenges in research on this aspect.

Highly efficient conversion of methane to formic acid under mild conditions at ZSM-5-confined Fe-sites

Kaixin Zhu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a highly selective and efficient method for methane conversion to formic acid by confining atomically dispersed Fe sites in the nano-channels of ZSM-5. The research demonstrates that the confined Fe-O active centers within ZSM-5 can dissociate C-H bonds and catalyze the oxidation of methane to formic acid via free radical mechanisms under mild conditions. This innovative approach opens up a new path for engineering the microenvironment of confined Fe sites within nanochannels for highly selective methane conversion with low energy input.

Highly Selective Oxidation of Methane into Methanol over Cu-Promoted Monomeric Fe/ZSM-5

Tao Yu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the Cu-modified Fe/ZSM-5 catalyst is highly efficient for the direct conversion of methane into methanol in the liquid phase using H2O2 as an oxidant. Cu species in the catalyst play a crucial role in facilitating the formation of .OH radicals, which react quickly with .CH3 radicals to form methanol. This provides valuable insights into the rational design of metal-zeolite combinations for the selective oxidation of methane into methanol.

Lewis acid (Ni2+, Co2+/3+ or Zn2+) modified electron-deficient Ir4+ in IrO2/CuO for promoting methane oxidation to ethanol and methanol

Le Yang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the electrophilicity of Ir4+ and the (LAS-BAS)/LAS ratio are key factors influencing methane activation and ethanol formation in the direct oxidation of methane reaction. The presence of Lewis acids in the catalyst also promotes ethanol formation from C2H4, involving lattice O and H2O. Ethanol selectivity shows a quasi-linear relationship with (LAS-BAS)/LAS.
