Fully Condensed Poly (Triazine Imide) Crystals: Extended π-Conjugation and Structural Defects for Overall Water Splitting

Minghui Liu et al.

Summary: A fully condensed poly(triazine imide) crystal with extended pi-conjugation and deficient structural defects was successfully synthesized by conducting polycondensation in a mild molten salt of LiCl/NaCl. The optimized polymeric carbon nitride crystal exhibits high apparent quantum efficiency for hydrogen production in overall water splitting due to efficient exciton dissociation and fast transfer of charge carriers.

Rapid, Ordered Polymerization of Crystalline Semiconducting Covalent Triazine Frameworks

Tian Sun et al.

Summary: This study successfully demonstrated a rapid synthetic method for crystalline CTFs and revealed their polymerization mechanism. Photocatalytic studies with CTFs of different crystallinity showed that large crystalline domains can significantly enhance catalytic performance. Moreover, single-layer and few-layer crystalline 2D triazine polymer nanosheets can be obtained through simple ball-milling exfoliation, leading to nearly fivefold improvement in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate.

Optimized Synthesis of Solution-Processable Crystalline Poly(Triazine Imide) with Minimized Defects for OLED Application

David Burmeister et al.

Summary: Poly(triazine imide) (PTI) is a highly crystalline semiconductor with potential for thin layer device applications. Protonation of PTI structure at pyridinic N atoms of the triazine rings can lead to exfoliation of layers and improvement in quantum yield and exciton lifetimes. Avoiding the detrimental C-C carbon-rich phase from conventional synthesis methods can enhance the optical and electronic performance of PTI.

Photocatalytic solar hydrogen production from water on a 100-m2 scale

Hiroshi Nishiyama et al.

Summary: Hydrogen, as an energy carrier, can be obtained through photocatalysis and electrolysis, making it a carbon-neutral energy source. While photocatalytic water splitting efficiency is low, large-scale safe production and collection of hydrogen is feasible. The essential next steps for economic viability and practical use are reactor and process optimization to reduce costs and improve efficiency and stability.

Molecule/Semiconductor Hybrid Materials for Visible-Light CO2 Reduction: Design Principles and Interfacial Engineering

Akinobu Nakada et al.

Summary: Researchers are focusing on developing carbon capture and utilization technologies, with visible-light-driven CO2 reduction technology becoming a key area of interest. Through the development of molecular metal complexes and semiconductor photocatalysts, it is possible to convert CO2 into value-added chemicals using sustainable solar energy and water resources. However, challenges remain in the electron transfer and selectivity of reactions in molecule/semiconductor hybrid materials.
