Nanostructured carbon-fiber surfaces for improved neurochemical detection

Ayah J. Syeed et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of nanostructure on the detection of catecholamines and purines on carbon fiber surfaces using fast-scan cyclic voltammetry. The optimized Ar-plasma treatment procedure increased the oxidative current for adenosine, ATP, guanosine, GTP, and dopamine, indicating improved sensitivity. Overall, the study provides critical insights into how the nanostructure of the surface influences the electrochemical detection of neurochemicals.

Influence of Geometry on Thin Layer and Diffusion Processes at Carbon Electrodes

Qun Cao et al.

Summary: The study systematically explores the effects of thin layer electrochemistry and diffusion at carbon fiber, carbon nanospike, and carbon nanotube yarn electrodes, providing insights on the impact of different surface structures on electrochemical processes. The research introduces a new simulation model to quantitate thin layer and diffusion contributions, explaining the CV shape and peak separation for electrodes with different surface structures, which will enable rational design of electrodes with thin layer electrochemistry.

Unravelling the optimization of few-layer graphene crystallinity and electrical conductivity in ceramic composites by Raman spectroscopy

Carmen Munox-Ferreiro et al.

Summary: Zirconia composites with few-layer graphene (FLG) were prepared using ultrasonic agitation and sintered at 1300 degrees C, achieving optimal electrical conductivity with high electrical percolation limit below 2.5 vol% FLG (678 S/m for 5 vol% FLG), attributed to the enhanced FLG crystallinity after sintering.
