On the resolution, sensitivity and ion transmission efficiency of a planar FAIMS

Junhui Li et al.

Summary: The sensitivity of FAIMS increases initially with the increase of electrospray flow rate, but reaches an optimum value at a certain flow rate. Further increasing the electrospray flow rate leads to a decrease in sensitivity, while the ion transmission efficiency increases. The dispersion voltage significantly affects both the ion transmission efficiency/sensitivity and resolution of FAIMS.

Application of zero-phase digital filtering for effective denoising of field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometry signal

Junhui Li et al.

Summary: The study analyzed noise types in FAIMS signals and evaluated three different signal processing algorithms (median filtering, discrete wavelet transform, zero-phase digital filtering) for denoising FAIMS signals. Results showed that using the ZDF algorithm for denoising resulted in significantly smaller standard deviations for CVp and W-h compared to MF and DWT algorithms. The ZDF algorithm was also found to effectively denoise while maintaining the integrity of the signal. This suggests that the ZDF algorithm can greatly improve analyte peak extraction accuracy and enhance the limit of detection in FAIMS measurements.

Effective separation of carbohydrate isomers using metal cation and halogen anion complexes in trapped ion mobility spectrometry

Chengyi Xie et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the effect of alkaline earth cations and halogen anions on the separation of isomeric carbohydrates, finding that the [M + Ca + I]+ complex was the optimum complex for enhancing IMS separation resolution. This complex showed effective separation capability for all 21 pairs of isomeric oligosaccharides used in the study and could potentially be used as an effective complex for enhancing IMS separation resolution of isomeric carbohydrates.
